Shortly AI

Shortly AI is a minimalist AI writing tool built for long-form fiction and prose, expanding your writing with simple slash commands.

Overview

Shortly AI keeps the writing experience deliberately simple: a distraction-free page where you write, and slash commands (/instruct, /rewrite) that summon the AI to continue or reshape your text in your voice. It became popular with fiction writers for its ability to pick up narrative threads and sustain tone across long sessions. The tool handles blog posts and articles too, but its soul is creative prose. Subscriptions are deliberately uncomplicated — unlimited words on paid plans.

How It Works

Open the editor, write a few sentences to set the scene and use the /instruct command to have the AI continue your piece. Guide it with brief instructions, rewrite weak passages and export the finished draft when complete.

FAQ

Is Shortly AI free to use?

Shortly AI offers a limited free trial; ongoing use requires a paid subscription, which includes unlimited word generation.

Does Shortly AI offer an API?

Shortly AI does not provide a public API — it is designed as a focused personal writing environment.

How does Shortly AI compare to alternatives?

Compared with template-driven content tools, Shortly AI is minimal and narrative-first; it trades breadth of features for flow and creative continuity.

What should I know before adopting Shortly AI?

Shortly AI’s minimalism cuts both ways: there are no templates, SEO tools or team features. Writers seeking a quiet co-writing partner will love it; content marketers may want more structure.

Is Shortly AI good for non-fiction writing?

Yes — while beloved by fiction writers, Shortly AI handles blog posts and articles well. Its minimalist approach simply gives fewer structural aids than SEO-focused writing platforms.

How many words can I generate?

Paid plans include unlimited word generation, which is one of Shortly AI’s biggest draws for long-form writers who dislike credit anxiety.
