Shortcut is an AI agent built for Microsoft Excel that builds and edits spreadsheets from natural language instructions. Aimed squarely at finance work, it creates formulas, cleans and transforms data, and assembles complete financial models โ including three-statement models, DCFs and LBOs โ directly inside the workbook.
The agent works as an Excel add-in on Windows and macOS, with a web version for modeling in the browser, and it operates on existing files without disrupting their structure. It understands standard financial modeling conventions, accounting standards such as GAAP and IFRS, and finance terminology, automatically creating linked schedules, assumptions tables and sensitivity analyses. On the vendor’s internal benchmark of 20 real-world tasks across finance, private equity and hedge funds, Shortcut scored 76% accuracy against 66% for Claude for Excel and 59% for Microsoft Copilot, at a lower average cost per completed task. The company is also training Pivot, its own finance-specific language model. For enterprise use, Shortcut offers SOC 2 Type II audited controls, zero-data retention agreements, private model gateways, customer-owned storage and on-premises deployment options.
Shortcut is a paid product aimed at professional finance teams, with a free trial available so users can evaluate the agent on their own models before committing. There is no free tier; ongoing use requires a paid plan, and enterprise deployments are arranged with the vendor.
Shortcut is made for investment bankers, equity research analysts, private equity and hedge fund teams, corporate finance departments and accountants who spend hours each week building and checking financial models in Excel.
