Pipelex is an open-source framework for building repeatable AI workflows — called methods — with your coding agent, with 948 stars on GitHub and active daily development.
Pipelex turns your expertise into an AI-powered app, MCP server or API. You describe how the work gets done in plain English, and your coding agent builds it into a method: a multi-step, deterministic AI procedure that chains LLMs, OCR, image generation and other capabilities in a defined order. Unlike ad-hoc prompting, a method is structured, repeatable and testable, so the same input produces the same kind of pipeline every time. Once built, a method can run anywhere — as a webapp for people, as an MCP that chatbots can call, or via API from your own software — and the open-source library is self-hostable with Docker. A companion plugin teaches your coding agent the method syntax, so you iterate on pipelines conversationally rather than memorising a new domain-specific language before you can build anything useful.
The Pipelex library is free to use and self-host under the Elastic License 2.0. Pipelex also offers hosted and SaaS options for teams that would rather run methods as a managed service than operate their own infrastructure, so you can start free and move up when you need to.
Pipelex is for developers and teams who prototype useful prompts and want to graduate them into reliable, reusable software. It fits anyone building document processing, content pipelines or agent tools where repeatability matters more than one-off chat answers.
