PAL MCP Server is an open-source Model Context Protocol server that turns your favorite coding CLIs into a multi-model team. It lets tools like Claude Code, the Gemini CLI, and Codex call on many different AI models — Gemini, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Azure, Grok, Ollama, and custom endpoints — and have them collaborate as one system inside your existing workflow.
Different models are good at different things, and PAL (Provider Abstraction Layer) exists to exploit that: your primary CLI keeps driving, while PAL routes specific jobs to the model best suited for them. It ships a toolbox of workflows including multi-model consensus debates, deep-thinking modes, code review, debugging, pre-commit checks, and documentation generation, all with conversation continuity across calls. Formerly known as Zen MCP Server, the project has grown to more than 11,700 GitHub stars and remains under active development, with updates in December 2025. It runs locally, talks to providers with your own API keys, and keeps you in control of which model sees what.
PAL MCP Server is free and open source. The only costs are the API charges of whichever model providers you connect with your own keys.
Developers using AI coding CLIs who want second opinions, deeper reasoning, and model diversity without leaving their terminal workflow.
