Orkas is an open-source, local-first AI team for your desktop, with more than 5,800 stars on GitHub. Instead of a single chatbot, it gives you a Commander that turns a goal into to-dos and coordinates 16 built-in specialist agents, alongside the coding and personal agents you already use.
Orkas is built for work that keeps moving, not for one-off answers. A project holds the goal, rules, memory, and files, so work carries over. The Commander plans the steps, hands each part to the right specialist, and combines the results. With Auto-advance on, the team picks up the next to-do itself, and scheduled automations repeat routine jobs. Your conversations, files, and knowledge bases stay on your computer by default, and Orkas asks before it sends, posts, or deletes anything through a connected tool.
Orkas is free to download for macOS and Windows, with 500 free credits for the built-in Orkas model, so you can start without an API key. Bringing your own provider key means that provider bills you directly. Paid plans add monthly credits, multi-device sync, more cloud storage, and more shared projects. The open-source build is MIT licensed and can be built from source, including on Linux.
Orkas is for founders, small teams, marketers, store operators, and indie builders who want one AI team for ongoing work: content, store briefs, reports, client updates, bug fixes, and internal tools, with human review before anything goes out.
