Openaibot (the LLMBot project) is an open-source framework for building your own ChatGPT-style bot and deploying it across the chat platforms your community already uses. One bot codebase serves Discord, Slack, Kook and Telegram, with tool calling, a plugin system and support for GPT-4-class models including vision. It is an open-source project on GitHub with around 1,900 stars, last actively updated in 2025.

Overview

Rather than writing separate bots per platform, Openaibot gives you a single Python package (also distributed as a Docker image) that abstracts the messaging platforms and LLM providers behind one interface. Out of the box it handles multi-turn conversation, persona prompts, plugin-based tool calls and group-chat behaviours such as replying only when mentioned. Configuration is file-based, so a personal or community bot can be running in minutes, and the plugin architecture lets developers add commands, integrations and custom chains without forking the core.

Key Features

  • One bot for Discord, Slack, Kook and Telegram
  • ToolCall support and an extensible plugin system
  • Works with GPT-4, GPT-4o and other OpenAI-compatible models, including vision input
  • Docker image and PyPI package for quick self-hosted deployment
  • Persona and prompt management for different bot personalities
  • Group-chat aware conversation handling and multi-user sessions

💳 Pricing

Free. Openaibot is open source under the Apache-2.0 license; you only pay for your own hosting and the LLM API usage your bot consumes.

The bot keeps per-user and per-group conversation context, supports persona presets so the same deployment can answer as different characters in different channels, and includes practical touches like rate limiting and access control for shared communities. Deployment options include a published Docker image and a PyPI package, and the documentation walks through obtaining bot tokens for each supported platform, which removes most of the friction that usually surrounds multi-platform bot projects.

Who Is It For

Community managers, indie developers and teams who want a self-hosted AI assistant inside Discord, Slack, Kook or Telegram without building platform integrations from scratch.
