Open Claude Cowork

Open Claude Cowork is an open-source desktop application that recreates Anthropic’s Claude Cowork experience: a chat-based agent that automates work across your desktop and more than 500 SaaS apps. Built by the Composio community on the Claude Agent SDK, it connects Claude to Gmail, Slack, GitHub, Google Drive and hundreds of other tools through Composio’s Tool Router. The project has about 4,300 stars on GitHub.

Overview

The Electron app gives you a full desktop chat interface with persistent sessions, token-by-token streaming and a sidebar that visualizes every tool call the agent makes, so you can watch it work through multi-step tasks. It supports custom skills — drop SKILL.md files into the project to teach it new capabilities — and can run on the Claude Agent SDK or the Opencode SDK for different models. The same repository bundles Secure Clawdbot, a personal-assistant variant that brings the same integrations to WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and iMessage, with persistent memory, browser automation and natural-language scheduling. You bring your own Anthropic API key and a Composio key; the code itself is MIT licensed and under active development in 2026.

Because it is built on the same Claude Agent SDK that powers first-party Anthropic tooling, the app inherits real agentic behaviour — planning, tool use and file operations — rather than being a thin chat skin. Sessions persist locally, and the tool-visualization sidebar addresses the trust problem of desktop agents by making every action reviewable after the fact. The bundled Clawdbot variant shares the integration layer, so a workflow you prototype on desktop can follow you into your messaging apps.
