Oh My Pi is an open-source terminal coding agent with 36,000+ stars on GitHub that wires IDE-grade capabilities directly into an AI programming assistant.
Built by Stencil Labs as a fork of the Pi agent toolkit, Oh My Pi (omp) is a coding agent that lives in your terminal but behaves like an editor-aware pair programmer. It reads and edits your codebase, runs commands, and keeps the tight feedback loop of an IDE through its terminal UI. The agent is multi-provider: it works with Anthropic, OpenAI and other LLM backends, supports MCP tools, and can be pointed at whichever model fits the task. Written in TypeScript and Rust on the Bun runtime, it installs from npm as @oh-my-pi/pi-coding-agent and stays fast and hackable. The project is under very active development, with repository updates landing in October 2026.
The project grew out of the Pi agent ecosystem and keeps its philosophy: a small, understandable core that developers can inspect and bend to their own workflow, rather than a sealed appliance. Because it speaks to several model providers, teams can route cheap tasks to small models and hard problems to frontier models from a single session. Sessions preserve context across a whole task, so the agent can plan a change, implement it, run the tests and fix what breaks without being re-briefed. For developers burned by opaque, subscription-only coding tools, that combination of control, transparency and raw capability explains the rapid star growth since its release.
Oh My Pi is completely free and open source under the MIT license. You only pay for the LLM API usage of whichever provider you connect.
Developers who like terminal-first workflows and want a coding agent with real project awareness, provider freedom and no subscription lock-in.
