MixtralKit is an open-source toolkit from the OpenCompass team for inference and evaluation of Mistral AI’s Mixtral 8x7B mixture-of-experts model, including the 32k-sequence-length variant. When Mixtral landed as one of the first strong open MoE models, MixtralKit gave researchers a ready-made way to run it and measure it instead of wiring up serving and benchmarks themselves. The project is hosted on GitHub, where it has earned roughly 765 stars.
Mixtral 8x7B uses a sparse mixture-of-experts architecture: eight expert feed-forward blocks per layer, with a router choosing two per token, giving it the speed of a much smaller model with the capacity of a 47B one. MixtralKit wraps this model with practical tooling โ installation scripts, inference entry points, performance notes and evaluation resources โ so teams can reproduce results and test the model on their own workloads. It documents the model architecture, explains how to obtain and place the weights, and reports performance characteristics. Coming from the OpenCompass group, known for LLM evaluation, it pairs naturally with broader benchmark efforts even though it focuses specifically on the Mixtral family.
MixtralKit is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. The Mixtral model weights themselves are also openly released by Mistral AI; you only pay for your own compute.
MixtralKit is for researchers and engineers evaluating or deploying Mixtral-class mixture-of-experts models who want a focused, ready-to-run toolkit rather than assembling inference and evaluation from scratch.
