MCP Go is a Go implementation of the Model Context Protocol, the open standard that lets LLM applications connect to external data sources and tools. Maintained by Mark3Labs, the GitHub repository has more than 9,100 stars and sees frequent releases, with updates continuing through October 2026.
The library gives Go developers everything needed to build both sides of an MCP connection. As a server author, you can declare tools with typed arguments, expose resources and prompt templates, and serve them over stdio, HTTP or server-sent events with a small amount of idiomatic Go code. As a client author, you can connect to any MCP server, list its capabilities and call its tools from your application or agent. Type-safe request handling, hooks and middleware, session management and sampling support are included, so production servers do not need to reinvent the protocol’s plumbing.
MCP Go is free and open source under the MIT License. There is no commercial tier; you only pay for whatever infrastructure you run it on.
MCP Go is for Go developers who want their services, internal tools and data sources to be callable by AI assistants and agents through the standard MCP interface. It is the natural choice for platform teams standardizing on Go who need MCP servers that behave like proper production software.
