The MATLAB MCP Server is MathWorks’ official Model Context Protocol server, published on GitHub, that lets AI applications run MATLAB directly. Connect an MCP-compatible coding agent โ such as Claude Code or Visual Studio Code’s agent mode โ and the assistant can execute MATLAB code, run scripts and tests, and work with your MATLAB session as one of its tools, instead of merely suggesting code you have to paste in yourself. The project has around 1,700 stars and is actively maintained, with code last updated in 2026.
Engineering teams live in MATLAB, but general AI assistants historically stopped at generating snippets. This server closes the loop: it exposes MATLAB execution as MCP tools, so an agent can write code, run it against a real MATLAB installation, read the results and iterate. It is maintained by MathWorks itself, which makes it the reference integration between MATLAB and the MCP ecosystem.
Free. The MATLAB MCP Server is provided by MathWorks at no charge; a licensed MATLAB installation is required to execute code.
