Golem is an open-source, agent-native runtime platform for building AI agents and distributed applications that never lose state, never duplicate work, and survive infrastructure failures without manual recovery logic.
Built by Golem Cloud, Golem runs WebAssembly components in a distributed cloud environment and gives them durable execution semantics: if a machine crashes mid-task, the agent’s work is recovered and replayed from exactly where it left off rather than starting over or corrupting state. Agents and services can be written in Rust, TypeScript, Scala or MoonBit and compiled to Wasm components using the component model and WASI, then deployed onto Golem’s sharded, fault-tolerant runtime. The platform ships with built-in tools, an MCP import path for connecting external tools, and SDKs plus a CLI for the full development workflow. The open-source repository has about 1,500 stars on GitHub and is under very active development, with its latest push in October 2026 and hundreds of releases behind it.
The Golem platform in this repository is open source and free to self-host. Golem Cloud additionally offers a managed hosted service for teams that do not want to run the infrastructure themselves, so the overall model is freemium.
Golem is for developers building long-running AI agents and distributed backends where reliability matters – workflows that must complete exactly once, recover from failures automatically, and keep consistent state over hours or days.
