Godogen is an open-source generator for autonomous game development: describe a game, and a coding agent such as Claude Code or OpenAI Codex builds it for you โ€” writing the code, generating the assets, running the engine, and proving the result, either as a live game you can watch and steer or as a recorded video. It targets Godot (C# or GDScript), Bevy, Babylon.js and three.js, and the project has attracted about 7,200 stars on GitHub since its release, with active development continuing through 2026.

Overview

Godogen itself is not a game; it is the source for a generator that produces games, following the chain godogen, then game repository, then finished game. You publish Godogen into a fresh repository, choosing your engine and which host agent flavor to use, and the agent then works inside that repo guided by a compact engine guide and a runtime manifest. A published setup is intentionally thin: the manifest, a one-page engine guide, and an asset-generation skill. The agent reads the situation as it builds, deciding on the run whether to hand you a playable live build to steer or a recorded video when you are not there. Demo prompts in the repository show the range of games it has produced from short natural-language descriptions.

Key Features

  • End-to-end autonomous game creation from a short text description of the game
  • Supports Godot in C# or GDScript, plus Bevy, Babylon.js and three.js
  • Works with Claude Code and OpenAI Codex as the host coding agent
  • Agent generates game assets and runs the engine to verify its own work
  • Delivers a live steerable game or a recorded video of the result
  • Thin published layout: runtime manifest, one-page engine guide and asset skill

๐Ÿ’ณ Pricing

Godogen is free and open source under the MIT license. Your only costs are the coding agent subscription or API usage you already use to run Claude Code or Codex.

Who Is It For

Godogen is for indie developers, hobbyists and AI tinkerers who want to prototype games at the speed of a prompt, and for agent builders studying how far autonomous coding agents can go on a creative, end-to-end task with real verification.
