Git-LRC, from Hexmos’s LiveReview family, is a free AI code review tool that runs at git commit time, reviewing your staged changes before they ever become a commit. The open-source project has around 1,500 stars on GitHub and is under very active development in 2026.
The workflow is deliberately small: stage your files, run the review, and get AI feedback on the diff in seconds, while there is still time to fix problems cheaply. Git-LRC analyzes staged changes with large language models and flags bugs, code smells, reliability issues, and security risks, organizing findings by type and area so you can see where risk concentrates in a change. A review dashboard summarizes all staged files with per-file line counts, lets you cycle through individual issues, and logs review events across iterations. Findings can be copied or sent straight back into your AI coding agent, creating a tight generate-review-fix loop for AI-assisted development: your agent writes code, Git-LRC reviews it, and the issues feed the next fix round. Thumbs-up and thumbs-down feedback on findings tunes future reviews to reduce noise. It integrates with VS Code and works with the git workflow you already have rather than asking you to adopt a new platform.
Free. Git-LRC is positioned and documented as a free tool; you use it with your own LLM access rather than paying for a review subscription.
Developers โ especially those generating lots of code with AI agents โ who want a fast, local review pass on every commit without a heavyweight platform.
