ElizaOS is an open-source agentic operating system on GitHub, with more than 19,600 stars, for building and running autonomous AI agents. Written in TypeScript, the monorepo contains the core agent runtime, the Eliza app for web, desktop, and mobile, a CLI, and a large library of first-party plugins. It grew out of the original Eliza agent framework and is under heavy active development, with commits landing throughout 2026.
ElizaOS treats agents as long-lived digital workers rather than chat sessions. Its model-agnostic runtime gives agents memory, knowledge and document workflows, messaging connectors, and scheduled tasks, while a plugin system lets each plugin register actions, providers, evaluators, services, and even app views. Agents can chat, speak, browse, automate desktops, manage calendars and inboxes, and operate non-custodial EVM and Solana wallets within approval boundaries. Local inference is supported through Eliza’s own on-device models, and the same runtime can route each capability to local, direct-provider, or cloud backends.
The ElizaOS framework is free and open source under the MIT license. The optional Eliza Cloud adds hosted model routing, deployment, and cross-device services on paid plans.
ElizaOS is for developers and communities building persistent AI agents โ social agents, personal assistants, research workers, and on-chain operators โ who want one open stack from runtime to app. Its plugin ecosystem and app targets make it equally suitable for quick experiments and for long-running agents that hold memory, schedules, and responsibilities over months of operation.
