eBook GPT Translator is an open-source toolkit that translates entire ebooks with large language models while preserving their format. It has 1,736 stars on GitHub and is under active development in 2026. Point it at a book file, pick a translation provider, and it produces a translated edition chapter by chapter.
The tool accepts TXT, EPUB, DOCX, and PDF files (with optional MOBI support) and rebuilds the translated book in the same format. Version 2 rebuilt the original single-file script into a proper package with a real command-line interface. Translation can run through the OpenAI or Azure APIs, any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or local AI coding CLIs such as Codex, Claude Code, and Gemini CLI using your existing subscriptions. A resume-safe SQLite cache stores finished chunks, so an interrupted overnight run can pick up where it left off instead of starting over. For very long books, a manifest tracks exactly which chunks are done, so progress is visible and verifiable at any point in the run. There are no subscriptions or per-book fees from the tool itself.
eBook GPT Translator is free and open source under the MIT license. Your only costs are the API usage or subscriptions of the translation provider you choose.
It is for readers, translators, and publishers who want a personal, consistent translation of a full book, for example reading foreign-language titles that have no official translation in their language.
