CLI-Anything is an open-source framework from the HKU Data Science Lab that makes existing software agent-native by generating real command-line interfaces for it, with more than 55,000 stars on GitHub. Today’s software serves humans; CLI-Anything bridges the gap to tomorrow’s agent users.
AI agents are far more reliable driving a command line than clicking through a GUI, yet most professional software has no CLI at all. CLI-Anything fixes that with a fully automated seven-phase pipeline: it analyzes a target application’s code and capabilities, designs a command model, generates a working CLI harness that talks to the software’s real backend, and emits a SKILL.md so agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and OpenClaw know how to use it. The generated CLIs are covered by production-grade unit and end-to-end tests and support both one-shot commands and an interactive REPL.
The community registry, CLI-Hub, collects the generated interfaces: harnesses already exist for tools such as Blender, FreeCAD, GIMP, Inkscape, LibreOffice, OBS Studio, Audacity, Kdenlive, QGIS, Zotero and many more, installable with a single command. Agents can browse, install and operate new CLIs on demand.
CLI-Anything and CLI-Hub are free and open source under the Apache-2.0 license. There are no fees for generating, installing or using the CLIs.
Agent builders and power users who want AI agents to operate professional desktop software reliably, and developers who want to make their own applications agent-native without designing a CLI by hand.
