Camofox Browser is a stealth headless browser built for AI agents: it automates the web like a real user’s browser, with engine-level fingerprint protection that lets agents get past bot detection and Cloudflare challenges. It positions itself as a drop-in Puppeteer and Playwright replacement and has earned about 11,800 stars on GitHub.
Agents that browse the web keep running into the same wall: sites fingerprint headless browsers and block them before any content loads. Camofox attacks the problem at the browser-engine level rather than with JavaScript patches that detection systems have learned to spot. It is built on Camoufox, a Firefox fork that spoofs fingerprints โ fonts, WebGL, screen properties, navigator data and more โ inside the engine itself, so the browser presents a coherent, realistic identity. The Node.js package wraps that engine in automation APIs familiar to anyone who has used Puppeteer or Playwright, making it a practical drop-in for existing scraping and agent pipelines that keep getting blocked. For agent builders, that combination matters: the agent’s reasoning may be excellent, but it is useless on the large fraction of the web that refuses to talk to obvious bots. Camofox gives those agents a browser that sites treat like a person.
Camofox Browser is free and open source under the MIT license. You run it on your own infrastructure; there is no paid tier for the browser itself.
Camofox Browser is for agent developers and automation engineers whose browsing agents or scrapers keep getting blocked by bot detection, and who need a stealth browser they can self-host with familiar Puppeteer/Playwright-style APIs.
