AiPy is an open-source AI desktop assistant from Knownsec, released in April 2025 and developed in the open on GitHub, where it has collected about 4,000 stars. Its core idea is “Python-Use”: instead of only chatting, the assistant turns natural-language instructions into Python programs and executes them locally to get real work done on your computer.
With AiPy, a user describes a task in plain language (or by voice) and the large language model plans the steps, generates code, runs it in a local sandbox and iterates on errors until the job is finished. Typical jobs include analyzing large local files and spreadsheets, generating Word, PowerPoint and PDF documents, collecting and organizing web data, and building small tools without the user writing code. The desktop app runs on Windows and macOS, supports mainstream LLM providers through your own API keys, and adds enterprise-minded safeguards such as sandbox permission controls, deletion protection, audit logs and workspace isolation.
AiPy is free to download and open source. You only pay your chosen LLM provider for API usage; the assistant itself has no subscription or paid tier.
