AgentTeams is an open-source collaborative multi-agent operating system from the AgentScope team. It coordinates multiple AI agents, with humans in the loop, through Matrix chat rooms, so every task, message and hand-off between agents is transparent and traceable. The project has gathered more than 5,800 stars on GitHub, was actively developed in 2026, and is also offered as a product on Alibaba Cloud.
Instead of agents running in isolated black boxes, AgentTeams places them in shared Matrix rooms where people can watch their work, steer it and approve or reject steps at any point. Each agent works with a persistent identity and workspace, tasks are coordinated conversationally, and the whole collaboration history stays visible. It builds on the AgentScope ecosystem, Alibaba’s broader family of agent development tools, and targets organisations that want multi-agent automation they can actually supervise. Using Matrix as the communication layer means the system rides on an open, federated protocol rather than a proprietary chat silo: agents and people can join from different clients and servers, and organisations can self-host the whole collaboration fabric. The Alibaba Cloud product page presents AgentTeams as an enterprise-ready way to deploy this multi-agent operating system without assembling the pieces manually. Setup guides and examples in the repository show common team topologies.
Freemium. The open-source edition is free under the Apache-2.0 license for self-hosting; Alibaba Cloud also offers AgentTeams as a managed commercial product.
