AgentFS is an open-source filesystem designed specifically for AI agents, created by the team behind Turso. It gives agents the full power of real CLI tools and file access, but inside an isolated, auditable sandbox: every file an agent creates, reads or modifies lives in a single SQLite file that you can inspect, snapshot, fork or roll back before anything touches your real project.
AgentFS is an open-source project on GitHub with about 3,500 stars and very active development in 2026. The core idea is simple: an agent’s entire filesystem is one SQLite database file. That makes agent sessions portable and resumable, lets you copy a filesystem instantly to fork sub-agents, and provides a complete audit trail of every change an agent made. AgentFS works through a FUSE mount or through SDKs for TypeScript, Python and Rust, so agents can use the ordinary CLI tools they were trained on while you stay in control. For teams, Turso Cloud can turn those SQLite files into networked filesystems backed by S3.
AgentFS is free and open source to self-host and use locally. Turso offers an optional paid cloud platform for syncing and networking AgentFS filesystems across machines and teams.
AgentFS is for developers building or running AI coding agents who want agents to work autonomously with real tools while keeping every change reviewable, reversible and safe.
