PII Blackout is an offline-first redaction tool for PDF, Word, and Excel files that finds and permanently removes personal data on the user’s own computer. Detection runs in two stages: pattern rules scan every page first, and then a dedicated PII language model built on Microsoft Presidio and GLiNER refines the results, catching edge cases that rules miss and filtering false positives, with support for more than 70 PII types including names, Social Security numbers, bank accounts, credit card numbers, emails, addresses, passport and tax IDs, and custom case keywords. Every match is highlighted for human review before anything is removed, and applying redaction renders each affected page at 400 DPI and fills the selected areas with solid black at the pixel level, so sensitive text is erased rather than covered with a removable overlay, alongside a page-by-page text report of what was removed. The desktop app for Windows and macOS supports batch folder processing, scanned PDF OCR, and seven interface languages, and it keeps working offline after sign-in, while a limited online demo lets newcomers try redaction on a sample file first. A free tier covers up to three PDFs per day, and paid plans start at $29 per month for Starter, with Professional and Team tiers adding unlimited pages, batch processing, and multi-device management.
