mngr is an open-source command-line tool from Imbue for managing AI coding agents, hosted on GitHub with about 420 stars and active development in 2026. It describes itself as “git for agents”: a Unix-style tool that lets you run any coding agent, in parallel, anywhere.
With mngr you can scale from a single local Claude Code session to hundreds of agents spread across remote hosts, containers, and sandboxes. It lists all your agents, shows which ones are blocked, and lets you instantly connect to any of them to chat or debug. Under the hood it is built on standard tools โ SSH, git, and tmux โ so there is no managed service required and no lock-in to a specific agent provider or interface. The GitHub repository is the public mirror of Imbue’s development repo, with changes exported automatically and issues and pull requests welcome. It installs with a one-line script or from PyPI as imbue-mngr, and is extensible through plugins.
The git analogy runs deep: just as git lets you create, clone, fork, and push versions of code, mngr lets you create, list, clone, message, snapshot, and destroy agents as first-class objects. That model makes fleets of agents scriptable, so a developer can spin up a batch of agents for a migration or a test sweep, watch their states from one list, and tear them down when the work is done.
mngr is free and open source. You install it locally and use it with your own agent subscriptions and infrastructure; Imbue does not charge for the tool or require a hosted account.
It suits developers and engineering teams who run many coding agents at once and need a single control point for them, especially power users who are comfortable in the terminal and want orchestration without a proprietary platform.
