Ealain is a free screensaver for macOS and Windows that fills your idle screen with an endless stream of abstract art generated with Stable Diffusion. The open-source app has more than 70 stars on GitHub and is licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.
Ealain does not ship a fixed gallery. Every image it shows is generated on demand through AI Horde, the volunteer-run distributed GPU network, in loose Bauhaus and De Stijl styles — bold geometric shapes and flat fields of color that suit a screensaver perfectly. Because the images are generated rather than bundled, the art on your screen is always new; the examples in the repository are explicitly pictures you will never see again. Styles come from AI Horde Styles, so you can create your own style definition and point the screensaver at it instead of the default look. Ealain also detects each monitor’s orientation and generates unique art in 16:9 or 9:16 for landscape and portrait displays alike, and it keeps a rolling local cache of 100 to 200 images so the show continues smoothly even when generation is slow. Ready-to-run downloads are offered for both macOS and Windows, and the project was still being updated in 2026.
Ealain is free and open source under MPL-2.0. Image generation runs on AI Horde’s volunteer GPUs at no cost, so there is nothing to buy and no account to create.
It is for anyone who enjoys generative art and wants a living screensaver rather than a slideshow — designers, AI art enthusiasts, and office workers with idle monitors to dress up.
