CyberWaifu is an open-source AI companion chatbot that combines large language models with text-to-speech to create a lifelike chatting partner, deployed primarily as a QQ bot with persona templates, long-term memory and expressive extras like stickers. Released under the MIT license, it has about 1,100 stars on GitHub and was last updated in 2023.
Most chatbots answer and forget; CyberWaifu was built to feel like a persistent character. Built on LangChain, it supports models such as ChatGPT and Claude, and wraps them in systems that create continuity: conversations are summarized into a memory database and recalled as context, giving the character long-term memory and a consistent personality you can shape with persona templates. A predefined chain-of-thought layer lets the bot make small decisions, like adding emoji, sending QQ stickers and memes, or searching the web when a question needs fresh information. It even simulates a sense of real life, perceiving the time of day and behaving accordingly, such as being asleep at night. Speech synthesis through Edge TTS and Azure (with VITS support planned) lets the character reply in voice as well as text.
CyberWaifu is free and open source under the MIT license. You self-host the bot and supply your own LLM and speech API keys, so running costs depend on the providers you choose.
CyberWaifu is for hobbyists and developers who want to build a persistent AI companion or virtual character on QQ, and for anyone studying how memory, persona and voice combine into a believable chatbot.
