Inpaint Anything is an open-source extension for the AUTOMATIC1111 Stable Diffusion Web UI that makes inpainting masks effortless using Meta’s Segment Anything model. Hosted on GitHub with about 1,300 stars under the Apache-2.0 license and updated through 2024, it replaces tedious manual mask painting with simple point-and-click selection.
Good inpainting depends on a good mask, and drawing masks by hand is slow and imprecise. Inpaint Anything runs Segment Anything inside the Web UI: you click on the object or region you want to change, the model produces an accurate segmentation mask, and Stable Diffusion then repaints only that area. This point-based workflow increases both the efficiency and the accuracy of mask creation, which leads to cleaner, higher-quality inpainting results. The extension installs from the Web UI’s Extensions tab (it supports AUTOMATIC1111 version 1.3.0 and higher), works with memory-efficient xformers, and a standalone version is also available for use outside the Web UI. Because the mask comes from a segmentation model rather than brush strokes, its edges follow the object’s real contour, which reduces the halo and bleeding artifacts that hand-drawn masks often leave around inpainted regions.
Inpaint Anything is free and open source under the Apache-2.0 license. It is an extension to the also-free Stable Diffusion Web UI, so the only requirement is your own computer or GPU to run the models locally.
Stable Diffusion users who retouch, repair or modify parts of generated or real images — removing objects, fixing faces, swapping elements — and want accurate masks in seconds instead of painting them by hand.
