XR Animator, developed as System Animator Online, is an open-source AI motion capture application on GitHub that tracks your full body with a single ordinary webcam and drives 3D avatars in real time. The project has about 1,900 stars and remains actively updated, with commits continuing into October 2026.
Built on Google MediaPipe machine learning models and TensorFlow.js, XR Animator detects 3D poses from live webcam video in the browser or in its Electron desktop app, then maps that motion onto VRM or MMD avatar models as if you were wearing a motion-capture suit. Users can track the face, the full body, the hands, or any combination, and tune the tracking to their hardware: on a typical PC it can reach high frame rates using web workers, while smartphones can fall back to lighter face tracking. WebXR support extends the experience into extended-reality scenes, and the web version runs on all major browsers on desktop and mobile without installation.
XR Animator is free to use. The web application can be opened directly from the project site and the source code is available on GitHub, so VTubers and developers can start capturing motion without paying for software or mocap hardware.
XR Animator is made for VTubers, streamers, indie game and XR developers, and 3D hobbyists who want believable avatar animation on a budget. It delivers the core of motion capture using hardware most people already own: a webcam and a browser.
