Eigent is an open-source cowork desktop application with more than 15,600 stars on GitHub that puts a workforce of AI agents on your own machine — a local, free alternative to Claude Cowork and similar cloud agent products.
Instead of chatting with a single assistant, Eigent lets you build an agent workspace around your team. You package the agents, skills, connectors, and instructions your work relies on into reusable Spaces, so every session starts ready to work with the right context and tools already in place. Agents share confirmed knowledge through scoped memory, run automations on a schedule or in response to events, and return finished output for review. You stay in control: permission decisions and agent questions wait visibly for your approval, and you can inspect the full trajectory — reasoning, actions, delegation, and file changes — behind every result before accepting it. Eigent runs locally or self-hosted on macOS, Windows, and Linux, is model-agnostic (connect cloud providers, enterprise gateways, or local models with your own API keys), and keeps secrets bound to your machine. The project is Apache-2.0 licensed and under very active development, with repository updates in 2026.
Eigent’s open-source desktop is free to download and self-host under the Apache-2.0 license, and you bring your own model API keys. The Eigent website also offers paid plans with team and enterprise capabilities such as centralized management and governance — see the official pricing page for current tiers.
Developers, small teams, and power users who want autonomous agent coworkers for research, documents, and repetitive knowledge work, but need the data, models, and approvals to stay under their own control rather than in a vendor’s cloud.
