WeChat ChatGPT Bot is a small open-source Go program that connects ChatGPT to a WeChat Official Account, so followers who message the account get ChatGPT-generated replies through WeChat’s passive-response interface. It was one of the earliest bridges between ChatGPT and WeChat, released in December 2022. The GitHub repository has around 380 stars; development stopped in late 2022.
WeChat Official Accounts can answer user messages via a server callback: WeChat forwards the message to your server, and your server returns a reply within a few seconds. This project implements that flow against the ChatGPT web session: you build the single Go binary with your account token compiled in, supply a config file holding your ChatGPT session token and browser cookies, expose the endpoint through a reverse proxy such as Nginx or Caddy, and register it in the WeChat platform console. A health-check endpoint helps verify the deployment. The README is in Chinese, reflecting its target audience of Chinese account operators. Because it depends on the unofficial ChatGPT web interface and its constantly changing protections, it is fragile by modern standards — but historically it showed thousands of operators how to wire an LLM into WeChat, and the code remains a compact reference for the Official Account callback protocol.
The project appeared within weeks of ChatGPT’s launch and was widely forked by operators who wanted an AI-powered official account before official APIs were available to them. Its single-binary design and minimal configuration made it a common starting point, and many later WeChat bot projects trace their callback handling back to this implementation.
The bot is completely free and open source. Running it costs only a small server and your own ChatGPT access.
