OpenVibe is a Python implementation of OpenCode, the open-source AI coding agent, bringing the terminal-based agentic coding experience to the Python ecosystem. The project has around 1,500 stars on GitHub and has been actively developed through 2026.
OpenCode popularized a particular shape of AI pair programmer: an agent that lives in your terminal, reads your codebase, plans changes, edits files, runs commands, and iterates with tool use against models from providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic. OpenVibe reimplements that experience in Python, which matters for teams whose tooling, extensions, and automation already live in the Python world and who want to embed, script, or modify the agent rather than treat it as a sealed binary. You chat with the agent about the change you want, it inspects the repository, and it carries out edits and shell commands with your approval, using the conversation as working memory. As an open implementation of a well-known design, it is also a readable reference for how modern coding agents structure their prompts, tools, and session handling. You bring your own model API keys; the software itself is free and open source.
Free. OpenVibe is open source and free to use; you only pay your chosen model provider for API usage.
Python-oriented developers who want an OpenCode-style terminal coding agent they can read, modify, and wire into their own tooling.
