Cradle is an open-source framework from BAAI that aims at General Computer Control: foundation-model agents that operate any software through screenshots, keyboard and mouse, the same interface humans use. It has around 2,600 GitHub stars. It is unrelated to the Cradle Bio protein platform also listed on Tooloso.

Overview

Cradle gives an agent a standardized environment for arbitrary computer tasks. The model sees screenshots, reasons about what to do, and acts through keyboard and mouse operations, while the framework adds strong reasoning loops, self-improvement from past attempts and a curated skill library that grows over time. Its modular design separates perception, memory, reasoning and action, so researchers can swap components and study which parts matter. The team demonstrated it across games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Stardew Valley and Cities: Skylines, and everyday software including Chrome, Outlook and CapCut. The framework accompanies a 2024 paper and was last updated in late 2024, making it a snapshot of an influential early design for generalist computer-use agents.

Key Features

  • Unified screenshot-in, keyboard-and-mouse-out control interface
  • Reasoning, reflection and self-improvement loops for agents
  • Skill curation library that stores and reuses learned procedures
  • Demonstrated in AAA games and real desktop software
  • Works with leading multimodal foundation models
  • MIT licensed framework with the full paper and docs public

๐Ÿ’ณ Pricing

Cradle is free and open source under the MIT license, and there is no hosted version or paid tier. You bring your own foundation-model API access, which is billed by the model provider you choose.

Who Is It For

Agent researchers and builders exploring computer-use agents that must handle arbitrary software rather than a single app’s API.
