Agent of Empires (AoE) is a free, open-source session manager for AI coding agents. It lets you run many agents — Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI, Mistral Vibe and others — in parallel, each in its own persistent tmux session, and monitor or steer them from a terminal UI or a web dashboard you can open on your phone.
Agent of Empires is an open-source project on GitHub with about 3,400 stars, actively developed in 2026 and supported by Mozilla.ai. Because every agent lives in a tmux session, agents keep running when you close the TUI, disconnect SSH or your terminal crashes — reopen AoE and everything is where you left it. On top of plain tmux it adds agent-aware status detection and notifications, git worktree management for running agents on parallel branches, Docker/Podman/Apple Container sandboxing, diff review, and structured plus terminal views for mobile. It works on Linux and macOS (Windows via WSL2) and installs with a single Homebrew command.
Agent of Empires is completely free and open source under the MIT license. You only pay for the coding-agent subscriptions or API usage of the agents you run through it.
