Stable Diffusion Infinity is an open-source desktop application for outpainting images on an effectively infinite canvas with Stable Diffusion. Published on GitHub, where it has about 3,900 stars, it was one of the earliest tools to make seamless image extension feel like painting rather than prompt engineering.
The app presents a zoomable canvas on which you place an initial image and repeatedly extend it in any direction: each new region is generated with inpainting and outpainting models that blend with what already exists, so a small picture can grow into a wide landscape or a tall poster. It supports Stable Diffusion inpainting checkpoints, offers selection and movement tools, prompt and seed controls per generation, and error-checking options to reject poor extensions. The GUI runs locally through a Python backend and works with your own model files and GPU. The project was most active in 2022-2023 and its last update landed in 2023, but it remains a distinctive, fully local creative tool.
Stable Diffusion Infinity is completely free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license. There is no hosted service or paid edition; you supply your own Stable Diffusion models and hardware.
Stable Diffusion Infinity is for digital artists, designers and Stable Diffusion hobbyists who want to grow images beyond their original frame, build wide scenes, or experiment with AI-assisted canvas painting locally.
