BlenderGPT is an open-source add-on that lets you control Blender with plain English commands, using OpenAI’s GPT-4 to translate your instructions into Blender Python code and execute it in the scene. The project has earned just under 5,000 stars on GitHub and remains a popular example of natural language interfaces for professional creative software.
Installed as a Blender add-on, BlenderGPT adds a simple panel where you type what you want: create a low-poly island, add a torus with a metallic material, set up lighting for a product shot. The add-on sends the request to GPT-4, receives generated bpy code, and runs it, building or modifying the scene step by step. Complex scenes can be composed through a conversation of short commands rather than manual modeling operations. Because the add-on shows the generated code as it runs, it doubles as a learning tool: beginners can see exactly which Blender operations correspond to the scene they described, and experienced users can copy and adapt the snippets into their own scripts and add-ons.
Free and open source under the MIT license. You supply your own OpenAI API key, so the only cost is your own GPT-4 usage.
Blender artists, 3D hobbyists and technical artists who want to prototype scenes faster, automate repetitive modeling steps, or learn Blender’s Python API by example.
