Hiring Agent is an open-source AI agent from Interview Street (the team behind HackerRank) that evaluates and scores resumes automatically, helping recruiters screen large applicant pools in a fraction of the usual time. It has around 7,300 stars on GitHub and was updated in 2026.

Overview

Manual resume screening is slow, inconsistent and notoriously hard to scale when a single opening attracts hundreds of applications. Hiring Agent applies an LLM-powered agent to the problem: resumes are read and assessed against the requirements of a role, and each candidate receives an evaluation and score that a human recruiter can review and act on. The project came out of Interview Street’s hiring-technology work and is published as a compact, hackable open-source repository under the MIT license, making it easy to adapt the prompts, criteria and workflow to your own hiring process. Because it is an agent rather than a fixed form, it can reason about experience, skills and project history in context instead of relying on simple keyword matching. It is free to run on your own infrastructure with your own model keys.
