InkOS is an open-source story-creation AI agent for novels, screenplays, interactive games, and IP content. Instead of a blank chat box, it provides a structured creative system — a Studio interface and CLI that plan, draft, revise, and translate long-form fiction with continuity across chapters. The project passed 10,000 stars on GitHub within months of release and was still under heavy development in October 2026.
InkOS treats writing as an agent workflow: it builds story bibles and character settings, generates outlines, writes chapter by chapter while tracking plot threads and foreshadowing, and can adapt material between formats — novel to script, story to interactive game, or one language to another. The Studio gives a visual workspace for configuring models and reviewing output, while the CLI suits scripted pipelines. It works with mainstream LLM services (including DeepSeek and Moonshot Kimi) through your own API keys, and can generate cover artwork through image models as part of the same project configuration. Chapters, settings, and secrets are stored in local project files, so a book in progress is a portable folder rather than data locked inside someone else’s platform.
Free. InkOS is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. You run it locally and pay only for the LLM API usage of whichever provider you connect.
Web-novel authors, screenwriters, interactive-fiction creators, and small IP studios who want an AI co-writer that can sustain long projects with consistent characters and plots — not just generate one-off scenes.
