Modly is a free, open-source desktop app that generates 3D models from images or text prompts using local AI. Published on GitHub with around 8,300 stars, it packages leading open 3D generation models into a clean application that runs entirely on your own GPU — no cloud, no account, no credits.
Cloud 3D generators charge per model and require uploading your reference images; Modly takes the opposite approach. You import a photo of an object, character, or concept — or type a text prompt — pick a model extension, and Modly produces a textured 3D mesh locally in minutes. It is powered by open-source models such as Hunyuan3D 2, TripoSG, and Trellis2, delivered as one-click installable extensions, so new generators can be added as the field advances. Finished models can be organized into collections in the built-in workspace and exported as GLB, OBJ, STL, or PLY files, ready for Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, or 3D printing. Because all inference happens on your NVIDIA GPU, generation is unlimited and completely private: your images never leave the machine. The app is available for Windows and Linux, and the project is under active development with updates continuing into late 2026.
Modly is completely free and open source under the MIT license. The project states there are no credits, subscriptions, or hidden costs — download it once and generate unlimited models.
Modly is for game developers, 3D artists, and makers who want fast AI-generated 3D assets without cloud fees or upload queues — ideal for prototyping game props, concepts, and printable models on a local workstation.
