Cloudflare Computer is an open-source runtime from Cloudflare that gives AI agents a computer of their own: a durable virtual filesystem paired with real code-execution backends, hosted inside a Cloudflare Durable Object. Released under the MIT license, the project has collected more than 9,600 stars on GitHub and was actively developed through 2026.

Overview

Instead of spinning up an ephemeral sandbox for every task, Cloudflare Computer keeps the authoritative state of an agent workspace in SQLite inside a Durable Object and exposes a single execution surface, workspace.runtime. Three backends ship today: a container backend that projects the state into a sandbox container as a real FUSE mount with a full Linux userland, an isolate shell that runs bash in a Dynamic Worker, and an isolate JavaScript backend that evaluates ECMAScript modules with workspace-backed file APIs. A workspace can register several backends, connect them lazily, or use the filesystem on its own.

Key Features

  • Durable, SQLite-backed virtual filesystem that survives between agent sessions
  • Container backend with a FUSE mount, real binaries and real network access
  • Isolate shell and isolate JavaScript backends running in Dynamic Workers
  • One execution entry point that routes shell commands or JS modules per backend
  • Runnable examples including an MCP server, one-shot agents and runtime comparisons
  • Filesystem performance that beats real disk on metadata-heavy workloads

๐Ÿ’ณ Pricing

Cloudflare Computer is free and open source under the MIT license. It runs on Cloudflare’s Workers platform, so hosting usage is billed under your own Cloudflare account’s normal platform pricing.

The repository is organized as a small monorepo: the dofs package implements the Durable Object filesystem, computerd is the daemon that runs inside sandbox containers, and the top-level computer package is what Durable Objects consume. Worked examples show the same agent task running against different backends side by side, which makes it easy to compare the container and isolate runtimes before committing to one.

Who Is It For

It is for developers building agents on Cloudflare who need persistent workspaces and safe code execution without managing sandbox infrastructure, and for teams prototyping computer-use agents that must pick up exactly where they left off.
