OpenMAIC is a free, open-source platform that creates an interactive classroom staffed entirely by AI agents. Built by the MAIC research team at Tsinghua University, it has earned more than 41,000 stars on GitHub and is under very active development, with its latest updates in 2026. With one click, a topic becomes an immersive lesson where multiple agents teach, discuss and answer questions together.

Overview

In an OpenMAIC classroom, different agents take on complementary roles — an instructor presenting material, teaching assistants, and simulated classmates who raise questions and viewpoints — while you learn alongside them as the student. The agents generate slides and explanations, hold discussions among themselves and respond to your input, turning passive course material into a conversation. The project grows out of the team’s research into multi-agent learning environments and is released openly so educators and developers can run, study and extend the classroom themselves. Generated lessons can cover a wide range of subjects and formats, from lecture-style presentations to discussion-driven sessions where agents debate a topic from different positions. The result feels closer to a seminar than a lecture recording: learners can interrupt, ask for simpler explanations and steer the discussion toward the parts they find confusing.
