Omi is an open-source AI wearable and companion app system that listens to your conversations and turns them into summaries, action items and a searchable personal memory. Developed by BasedHardware, the project has earned more than 13,700 stars on GitHub, is released under the MIT license, and was still actively updated in 2026. The same codebase powers the Omi pendant, the Omi Glass open-source smart glasses, and apps for iPhone, Android, Mac and the web.
Instead of relying on a phone app that stops recording when a call comes in, Omi uses a small always-on pendant (or your phone and desktop) to capture conversations online or offline in more than 25 languages. Everything captured is transcribed with speaker awareness, condensed into summaries and tasks, and stored as memories you can search or simply ask about in plain language. Because the whole stack is open source, technically inclined users can inspect the code and even run the backend locally instead of using Omi’s cloud.
The Omi pendant is a one-time hardware purchase (listed at $129, regularly $179) and includes a free plan with no subscription required. The apps and source code are free and open source; heavier cloud usage is available through paid plans.
Omi suits founders, salespeople, consultants and anyone whose day is back-to-back conversations they need to remember and act on, as well as developers who want an open, hackable platform for wearable AI and conversation intelligence.
