AIBrix is an open-source, Kubernetes-native infrastructure stack for cost-efficient generative AI inference, developed within the vLLM project ecosystem. Instead of another model-serving engine, it supplies the pluggable cloud-native components that surround engines like vLLM: gateway routing, autoscaling, distributed caching and GPU management. It is actively maintained on GitHub, with more than 5,100 stars and ongoing development through 2026.
Serving large language models in production is rarely about the model alone; it is about squeezing utilization out of expensive GPUs while traffic swings up and down. AIBrix addresses that layer. It provides a GenAI gateway for routing and rate limiting, autoscalers that react to inference-specific signals rather than plain CPU, a distributed KV cache that shares context across replicas, LoRA adapter management for multi-tenant serving, and GPU optimization utilities that pack workloads more densely. Because it is built on Kubernetes, it slots into existing platform stacks rather than replacing them.
AIBrix originated at ByteDance and is developed in the open together with the vLLM community, with the explicit goal of becoming the standard cloud-native control plane for large-scale inference. Documentation and deployment manifests are provided, so platform teams can evaluate it on a test cluster before committing production traffic to it.
AIBrix is free and open source under the Apache-2.0 license. There is no commercial edition; organizations run it on their own clusters and only pay for their underlying infrastructure.
AIBrix targets platform and infrastructure engineers who operate vLLM or similar engines at scale and need the surrounding autoscaling, caching and routing machinery to serve GenAI workloads economically.
