Agent Native is an open-source framework from Builder.io for building agentic applications — apps where an AI agent is a first-class citizen that can see the app’s state and take actions in it, not a chat widget bolted onto the side. It is built on React and TypeScript. The project has earned about 7,500 stars on GitHub and is under active development in 2026.
Most “AI features” today are a chat box that can only talk about the application. Agent Native flips that: you define your app’s actions and state once, and both the human UI and the agent operate on the same foundation. The agent can navigate, fill, create and modify inside the app the way a user would, which makes copilots, autonomous workflows and AI-driven forms feel native instead of scripted. The framework provides the primitives for this pattern — exposing app actions to agents, streaming agent activity into the UI, and keeping the human in control — while staying inside the standard React/TypeScript stack that product teams already use. It reflects Builder.io’s broader thesis that the next generation of software is designed for agents and humans together, and it gives that idea a concrete, MIT-licensed codebase to build on.
Agent Native is free and open source under the MIT license. You bring your own model provider accounts for the agents you build with it.
Agent Native is for product teams and developers building applications where an AI agent should work inside the product — operating features, not just answering questions about them.
