PaddlePaddle is Baidu’s industrial-grade deep learning framework, open-sourced in 2016 as China’s first independently developed deep learning platform. It combines a high-performance core framework with model libraries, development kits and deployment tools, and is built for real production use: efficient single-machine and distributed training, and deployment across servers, edge devices and diverse hardware. The project reports serving tens of millions of developers and hundreds of thousands of companies, and its GitHub repository holds about 24,000 stars.
Where many frameworks grew out of research labs, PaddlePaddle grew out of Baidu’s industrial practice, which shows in its emphasis on training efficiency, deployment and hardware adaptation. Recent generations of the framework unify dynamic and static graphs and add automatic parallelism, so a model written for a single GPU can discover an efficient distributed strategy with minimal annotations. Training and inference share the same framework, and capabilities such as high-order automatic differentiation support scientific computing in fields like materials science, meteorology and biology. A standardized adaptation layer supports many chip types beyond mainstream GPUs, and the surrounding ecosystem adds model suites for OCR, vision, language and other tasks.
PaddlePaddle is free and open source under the Apache-2.0 license. The framework, documentation and community resources cost nothing; commercial cloud services built on it are offered separately by providers.
PaddlePaddle is for enterprises and developers who need an industrial deep learning platform with strong deployment and hardware support, especially teams in manufacturing, agriculture and enterprise services, and researchers in scientific computing.
