MLC LLM is an open-source universal LLM deployment engine built on machine learning compilation. Developed by the MLC community on GitHub, it has earned more than 23,000 stars, remains actively maintained with updates in October 2026, and is released under the Apache-2.0 license.

Overview

Instead of relying on hand-tuned kernels for each platform, MLC LLM compiles large language models ahead of time for the hardware they will run on. The result is a single deployment stack that can serve the same model on server GPUs, consumer graphics cards, Apple Silicon machines, mobile devices, and even inside the browser. By building on ML compilation technology from the TVM ecosystem, it generates optimized code for each target while keeping a consistent runtime and API surface for developers.

Key Features

  • ML compilation pipeline that optimizes models for each deployment target
  • Cross-platform reach: NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, Apple Silicon, CPUs, mobile devices, and WebGPU in the browser
  • Support for popular open-weight model families in a unified workflow
  • Quantized model support for running large models on memory-constrained hardware
  • REST server with an OpenAI-compatible API for easy integration
  • Python APIs and command-line tooling for building custom deployments
  • Native performance without depending on a hosted inference provider

The project grew out of the Apache TVM and machine-learning-compilation community, and it shares ideas and infrastructure with sibling efforts that bring LLMs to browsers and mobile apps. Because models are compiled rather than interpreted, deployments tend to be lean: quantized weights keep memory footprints small, and the generated code squeezes the most out of each chip’s capabilities. An active open-source community maintains model conversions, device support, and documentation, which makes MLC LLM a frequent choice for research prototypes and production edge deployments alike.

๐Ÿ’ณ Pricing

MLC LLM is completely free and open source under the Apache-2.0 license. You only pay for your own hardware or cloud compute.

Who Is It For

MLC LLM suits ML engineers and product teams who need to deploy LLMs across diverse hardware, from data-center GPUs to laptops and phones, and want on-device or self-hosted inference without giving up performance.
