Blender MCP connects large language models to Blender, the open-source 3D creation suite, so you can build and edit 3D scenes by describing what you want in plain language. The project pairs a Blender add-on with a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, letting assistants such as Claude create objects, apply materials, adjust lighting and run scene operations directly inside Blender instead of through manual menus.
Blender MCP is an open-source project on GitHub with more than 31,800 stars, actively maintained with updates as recent as October 2026. It is a community project and is not affiliated with the Blender Foundation. The add-on runs inside Blender and exposes the scene to an MCP server, which any compatible LLM client can connect to. From there, the model can inspect the current scene, add or modify geometry, assign materials and colors, set up cameras and lights, and execute Python code in Blender’s scripting environment when a task needs something custom.
Blender MCP is completely free and open source under the MIT license. You only need Blender itself, which is also free, plus access to an LLM client of your choice.
Blender MCP suits 3D artists, game developers, motion designers and hobbyists who want to speed up scene setup and repetitive modeling tasks with AI assistance, as well as developers experimenting with LLM-driven creative tools and MCP integrations.
